In 1958, Dave White wrote the rock and roll anthem "ROCK AND ROLL IS HERE TO STAY" while on tour
performing with Danny and the
Juniors, a group that he formed in 1955, originally called The Juvenaires,
consisting of; lead singer Danny Rapp, baritone, Joe
"Terry" Terranova, second tenor, Frank Maffei and
first tenor, Dave White. The Juvenaires were discovered singing on the
corner by John Madara who co-wrote
the rock and roll classic "AT THE HOP" with Dave White and Artie Singer (title
suggested by Dick Clark).
Madara and White went on to write many hits including "YOU DON'T OWN ME" for Lesley
Gore, "The Fly"
for Chubby Checker and "1-2-3" with Len Barry.The afforementioned songs are featured in some of the most
popular
films of all time including;"WOODSTOCK," "AMERICAN GRAFFITI," "HAIRSPRAY,"
"DIRTYDANCING," "THE FIRST WIVE'S CLUB,"
"MR. HOLLAND'S OPUS" and "GREASE ," which in
1978 became the highest grossing musical ever. In the '50's,
rock and roll was considered a "fly by night," a
"flash in the pan." Society in general was afraid of it. Certain factions
of the church denounced it as a threat
to the moral fibre of the youth of America. Major record companies and major recording
artists refused to
record it. Mainstream disc jockeys wouldn't play it, but the kids loved it. And now, these many years
later, it is
indelibly imprinted and interwoven into the fabric of the world's pop culture tapestry demonstrating that
"ROCK AND ROLL IS HERE TO STAY."
